Sick days
This is my view:
As I was sitting on the couch miserable yesterday I had to sit inside on a beautiful sunny day. I wanted so bad to go outside but for the better of my health, I decided against it. Instead I stayed inside and rested while my husband took care of like he always does. He made sure I took some dayquil and drank my orange juice. He even brought home Chinese food and an apple pie in honor of international pi day (3.14)!
Today I'm feeling much better. I slept for 12 hours last night and even took a nap today. It was another beautiful day and wanted to go outside so bad but I decided to give my body one more day and not push it. Which is fine. I've been using this weekend to have a harry potter movie marathon and painted my nails for St. Patrick's Day!
I hope your weekend is going better then mine. I'm hoping to recover from this illness soon. Depending on how well I'm feeling tomorrow I will go for a short walk

Teaching: it's what I do
"The problem with teaching as a
profession is that every single adult citizen of this country thinks
that they know what teachers do. And they don’t. So they prescribe
solutions, and they develop public policy, and they editorialize, and
they politicize. And they don’t listen to those who do know. Those who
could teach. The teachers."
I was reading an article and found this quote and I love it. It describes so much about being a teacher. Now I work at a private child care center from the ages 6 weeks to 5 years old so it's a little different then working in public school. When telling people this, most people look at me weird and you can tell that they aren't impressed with the work I do. To this day I still have people that think I'm crazy to have gone to work for 5 years, only to with with "babies." It really quite frustrating and also disrespectful. People honestly have NO idea how important early childhood education is! People have no idea that when I got hired for my current employer it was required for me to have a bachelor degree is child development in order for them to consider me a full time head teacher. If you don't have the degree you have to wait a year to gain experience and start out as an assistant teacher, where you help with the classroom but you can't be left alone with the kids. Since being hired with the Corvallis Community Children's Center almost 3 hours ago, I've worked in the Pre-K room, wobbler (1 year olds), toddler (2 year olds), and now infants. Each classroom has to follow a certain lesson plan that includes developmentally appropriate activities while following the creative curriculum. If you didn't understand that last sentence then you have no idea what it's like to be a teacher.
Whenever people ask me where I work, I usually tell them I'm a teacher. They get an excited look on their face and then they ask where I work. When I tell them that I work at a daycare/preschool center the excitement leaves their face a little and say, "cool, that sounds like a fun job!" Sometimes they are being sarcastic other times they mean it. It use to bother me. But now that I've work been working with children for quite some time I take no mind to people's opinion about the job that I do. I do it because I love it. I may not get payed much, but I don't do it for the money. I do it because I love kids. I do it because I know how important early childhood education is. It brings me so much happiness knowing that I make a difference in a child's life. Someday I hope people with wake up and realize how important my job is, but until them I will continue doing what I love!

Snowy days
As I'm sitting in my house wearing my warm jammies, I can hear the sound of the freezing rain hitting my window. Corvallis is on day 3 of this snow storm and after 18 inches the snow finally decided to stop! It started when I woke up Thursday morning, my alarm went off to get ready for work and I looked out the window, only to see a good 4 inches of snow on the ground! It's crazy how it snowed this much when just yesterday it was sunny and absolutely beautiful outside. Through out the rest of the day and all through Friday is just kept on snowing until Friday night. This is the most snow Corvallis has ever had in like 20 years! The last time there was this much snow was when I was little. I was maybe 4 years old and we were living in the Witham Hill Oaks apartments. It had snowed so much they had closed OSU where my dad was going to school. We spent the day together playing in the snow and my dad rolled up the snow into a huge snow ball, about as tall as him. He then carved a big snow man out of it.
Because of all the snow I didn't go to work on Thursday or Friday. Because I was stuck at home I wanted to do some baking. But in order to do that I had to go to the store. I'm glad I went when I did because my car is now covered in snow! On Friday I was getting a little stir crazy and decided to go for a little stroll through the crystal lake sports field. I made sure to bundle myself up really good. It was fun but it was also lot of work considering the snow almost went up to my knees!
Snow much is actually pretty exciting! I just wish was able to drive somewhere. Because Corvallis doesn't get much snow people aren't use to driving in it, so the whole city pretty much shuts down. I hope it melts soon because I'm getting stir crazy sitting at home!
