Hiking through the falls

The past couple of weeks nature has been calling to me. It had been awhile since I've gone on a walk and enjoyed the outdoors, so on Saturday I answered my calling by hiking through Silver Falls State Park. This was m 2nd time going there and it was still as breath taking as ever! Even though I'm not in shape what-so-ever I still made it the 5 miles!

While hiking I did notice that the amount of water pouring out of the waterfall was really low compared to when we went 2 years ago. I found the old pictures to make some comparisions:

This was from 2013

From 2013

I blame the low water level from not having very much snow this year up in the mountain. On top of little to no rain during the spring. Either way, the waterfalls were still pretty to look at

First time fun

Tyrel and I are always looking for new things to try. Well on Saturday we spent most of our day in Newport for the Celtic festival and Highland games. It had lots to look at and it was fun watching the different games, using random things to throw to show their strength. have events like the Stone Put:

Sheaf Toss. Using a pick fork and a "bundle of straw"

Weight throw:

Skillet toss:

 Caber Toss:

Scottish hammer throw:

There was music to listen to also

It was pretty cool.

Home

The hardest part about living in Salem is not knowing anyone. It's hard making new friends when you are older. Also I'm further away from my family as well. Sure Corvallis may only be a 45 minute drive, but that's longer then it was. It's really hard calling this place home when Corvallis has been my home for as long as I can remember. I couldn't help but feel a little homesick on Saturday when I came down to Corvallis for dinner with my family. Tyrel and I both miss it and if we could, we would move back, but both of us have new jobs that we both love and we don't want to mess with that.

Until next time Corvallis
